Stencils, Mail Art and Helmar!

If you are a follower of my blog then you already know how much I love to use stencils and Dylusions Ink Spray to create my own background papers. I start with a 6x6" square of 140lb. Strathmore Watercolor Paper...this gives me the opportunity to see how a stencil will look, gives me the opportunity to play with color combinations and have lots of fun paper laying around for future projects.

Here are 3 MAIL ART projects I created for a cross promo between HELMAR & Viva LasVegaStamps Design Teams. You can read more about this project here.

Stencils Used:
Julie Fei-Fan Balzer Pomegranate {TCW285}

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer Echoes {TCW371}

Ronda Palazzari Honeycomb {TCW346}

Do you like working with stencils...what are your favorites?

Thanks for Stopping by...time for me to get my art on!

PanPastels and Art Journals

I love working with PanPastels and I had the opportunity to play this week with an assignment from the Helmar Design Team promo week with PanPastels. I chose to look at its uses differently...instead of creating a background from PanPastels I would start with a background already completed. I also wanted to see how they would work over various types of materials I would be using. This journal page was created in the Dyan Reaveley Creative Journal which has become one of my favorite to work in. The paper is scrumptious and was designed for a variety of mediums.The stencils I used for this page is one of the new Ronda Palazzari designs from The Crafters Workshop called Quatrafoil in the 12x12 size and Balzer Designs Diamonds. I used several Tim Holtz stamps from Stampers Anonymous and also from MaVinci Stamps.

Here are photos taken during different stages of completion.
Acrylic background created with Ranger Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers.
Vintage sheet music applied with Helmar Acid Free Glue.
PanPastel applied with the Angle Slice Art Sponge.
PanPastels applied over collaged and gessoed wash tape & vintage sheet music.
Using a stencil designed by Ronda Palazzari and applying Versamark Ink this pattern was created
when PanPastels were applied over it.
Tim Holtz Melange Tissue paper, vintage book pages and washi tape with
several colors of  PanPastels layered over them.
Stamped image with PanPastels applied with Soffit Knife Tool.

Completed journal page.

I was very pleased with experimenting how PanPastels would react with different mediums. After finishing I did spray both pages with a fixative to make sure they would not smear. I was pleased at how adding PanPastels over acrylic paint actually added depth and color.

Thanks for stopping by today...I hope I've inspired you to take a look at PanPastels! Have a great weekend.

Tattered Angels and Stencils = LOVE

It's no secret that I love working with stencils to create background paper to use in other projects. In this instance I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist & Chalkboard Glimmer Mist to create these on Strathmore Series Water Color Paper. I love to use watercolor paper because of the texture of it..after it grabs the color the glimmer really pops..of course we don't have GLIMMER VISION!

I don't worry about colors I just grab and COMMIT TO THE MIST! Here are the 4 papers I created last week.

Here are a few examples of one way to use these background papers. I have been working on decorating them to use as gift tags for Christmas gifts.

Stop back later this week for completed tags. Thanks for stopping by today. Have a great day and don't forget to BREATHE!!!

Tattered Angels Resist Techniques + Kid Friendly

Tattered Angels DT Theme for July is projects that are easy enough for kids utilizing resist techniques. I don’t have any children living nearby but this may be one of the easiest techniques that could be used. This is another technique that I love to use to create my own backgrounds. This time instead of paper I am using a Canvas Corp Mini Journal Book made from canvas. Although I have the start of an idea of what the final project will be  and it’s just a start I can at least share 4 of the pages that I have created.

I like to use  Claudine Hellmuth’s Studio Multi-Medium Matte, a gel medium, and a stencil to get started…along with a palette knife or old credit card. Spread a thin coat of the gel medium over the stencil, remove the stencil and allow to air dry or get out the heat gun. It leaves a clear resist that then can be misted with your favorite Tattered Angels paint products. Here are several of the pages that I’v created so far:
I went for light, neutral colors with the idea that it might be tea-dyed or aged.
Material Used: The Crafters Workshop Balzer Design’s Stencil ~ Mini Mix & Match Hearts, Claudine Hellmuth Studio Matte Medium Matte, Canvas Corp Canvas Mini Journal, Tattered Angels Chalkboard Glimmer Mist~Sandy BeachGlimmer Mist ~ Post Card , Gilded Gold
Light neutral colors but with a hint of color for the starburst & star.
Materials Used: The Crafters Workshop ~ Starburst, Claudine Hellmuth Studio Matte Medium Matte, Canvas Corp Canvas Mini Journal, Tattered Angels Chalkboard Glimmer Mist~Sandy BeachGlimmer Mist ~ Post Card , Gilded Gold, Silk, Sun Sisters, Pumpkin Spice
Light neutral colors but with a hint of color  for the cover.
Material Used: The Crafters Workshop Dylusions Stencil ~ Dotted Flowers, Claudine Hellmuth Studio Matte Medium Matte, Canvas Corp Canvas Mini Journal, Tattered AngelsChalkboard Glimmer Mist~Sandy BeachGlimmer Mist ~ Post Card , Gilded Gold, Silk
I created this flower to use on the cover…it looks better in person but I haven’t attached it yet so I can change my mind when completed. I LOVE how the Canvas Corp Flower came out.

Material Used: The Crafters Workshop Dylusions Stencil ~ Dotted Flowers, Claudine Hellmuth Studio Matte Medium Matte, Canvas Corp Canvas Mini Journal & Flower, Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 Art Parts ~ Button, Helmar 450 Quick Dry  Adhesive, Tattered Angels Chalkboard Glimmer Mist~Sandy BeachGlimmer Mist ~ Post Card , Gilded Gold, Silk, Sun Sisters, Pumpkin Spice, Moss & Verdigris

I hope you give this technique a try. I will be back later this month with more projects and news from the 2012 SUMMER CHA in Chicago, Il. Speaking of which...I better finish packing!!!
