PanPastels and Art Journals

I love working with PanPastels and I had the opportunity to play this week with an assignment from the Helmar Design Team promo week with PanPastels. I chose to look at its uses differently...instead of creating a background from PanPastels I would start with a background already completed. I also wanted to see how they would work over various types of materials I would be using. This journal page was created in the Dyan Reaveley Creative Journal which has become one of my favorite to work in. The paper is scrumptious and was designed for a variety of mediums. The stencils I used for this page is one of the new Ronda Palazzari designs from The Crafters Workshop called Quatrafoil in the 12x12 size and Balzer Designs Diamonds. I used several Tim Holtz stamps from Stampers Anonymous and also from MaVinci Stamps.

Here are photos taken during different stages of completion.
Acrylic background created with Ranger Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabbers.
Vintage sheet music applied with Helmar Acid Free Glue.
PanPastel applied with the Angle Slice Art Sponge.
PanPastels applied over collaged and gessoed wash tape & vintage sheet music.
Using a stencil designed by Ronda Palazzari and applying Versamark Ink this pattern was created
when PanPastels were applied over it.
Tim Holtz Melange Tissue paper, vintage book pages and washi tape with
several colors of  PanPastels layered over them.
Stamped image with PanPastels applied with Soffit Knife Tool.

Completed journal page.

I was very pleased with experimenting how PanPastels would react with different mediums. After finishing I did spray both pages with a fixative to make sure they would not smear. I was pleased at how adding PanPastels over acrylic paint actually added depth and color.

Thanks for stopping by today...I hope I've inspired you to take a look at PanPastels! Have a great weekend.

Helmar & May Arts Blog Hop ~ Day 2

Our team has been excited about this hop. We love playing with ribbon and May Arts always has gorgeous ribbon for us to play with. What is even more fun is that Helmar and May Arts are giving away TWO chances to win some great product on this TWO day Hop!

Helmar will be offering two Arts & Crafts Starter packs!

***Please note that picture above is a graphically representation. Actual products provided are listed on Helmar’s store websites***

May Arts will be offering two prize packages of winner’s choice of 2 spools of ribbon! So, how do you enter to win a chance at one of these grand prizes? Hop through with us and visit each designer’s blog and leave a comment on their Helmar and May Arts Blog Hop post. The first winners will be chosen on the 21st and the second winners will be chosen after the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend! So let’s get started!

Have you ever wanted to create a decorative ribbon pillow but not had the time or materials to sew one. I have the solution...Helmar 101 Quilt Basting Spray and HELMAR FABRIC GLUE! It dries crystal clear, creates a FLEXIBLE bond, is machine washable and is permanent. Now that the holidays are quickly approaching I wanted to create just such a pillow.

Step #1: Grab a Canvas Corp canvas pillow cover and burlap flower, an assortment of MAY ARTS ribbon and Helmar.

Step #2: Create a pleasing arrangement of your ribbon. The middle ribbon I pleated partially using the Helmar Fabric Glue. I temporarily attached to pillow cover with the Helmar 101 Quilt Basting Spray. Once pleased with arrangement  I glued my ribbon permanently to the cover. I folded over & glued each ribbon to the back of the pillow cover. I don't have plans to actually wash this pillow cover, it is for decorative purposes only.

Step #3: Create a flower corsage using Helmar Fabric Glue...the flowers are vintage millinery roses from my collection.

Step #4: Attach the corsage and I also added a small piece of vintage sequin studded ribbon over the cream May Arts ribbon, again using Helmar Fabric Glue.

Finished pillow...looks expensive, fast, easy & no-sew with HELMAR & MAY ARTS!

Now on to the rest of the blog hop...follow here & if you need to go back to Day 1 the blogs are listed below.

Tattered Angels & Gift Giving

Geesh...I thought that I would post more last week after having 3 weeks of LIFE CHAOS but it just didn't happen. You know the old saying...something about the best laid plans...lol! Today I want to share 3 projects created for Tattered Angels...fun, fast and fabulous gift giving ideas.

In my world today gifts have come down to either gift cards or money. Although this is the most personal but sometimes the most welcome. I hate using a store bought card to put these gifts in so I came up with an alternative method that can be so easily personalized for the recipient.

I have several boxes of mop tags, left over scraps of paper, left over embellishments…actually it’s my junk drawer that I keep just for this type of project!

I love the new sizes of manila tags that are available from Ranger and this project was created on the new #10 size {4-1/8” x 8-1/2”}. Using scraps from my scrap box of embossed 7 Dots paper, May Arts lace trim, quatrefoil shapes cut from Spellbinders Labels #24, Prima flowers, Tim Holtz Ideaology & 7Gypsies metal embellishments in no time I put together this rather lovely tag. To pull together all the different colors on my scrap pieces they all received a heavy misting of Tattered Angels Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist.  On the back I glued a small manila envelope from Maya Roads that I’ve had for several years.

How about another tag created from your standard size manila shipping tag, left over papers and embellishments and a quote from Balzer Designs Stencil MINI-POPPIES misted with Tattered Angels Marmalade Glimmer Mist. Wrapping the tag with Canvas Corp twine gives it a finished look along with a gift envelope attached with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. Another quick and easy gift tag to present as a gift.

How about a simple frame made from a manila tag for favorite photo of the gift recipient. Using the NEW size #12 {5-1/8”x10-1/2”} manila shipping tags from Ranger Inkssentials and an Instagram photo {4”x4”} in no time you can put together a cute, inexpensive mini frame with your gift enclosed using one of the fabulous mini envelopes found in so many different paper lines. With left over Pink Paislee wood letters arrow misted with Tattered Angels Boogie Board Chalkboard, Mallard Glimmer Mist and an overcoat of Guilded Gold Glimmer Mist, some Helmar 450 Quick Dry Glue I have a gift ready to go! Because I used one of my Mop Tags {because I hate to waste any of the Tattered Angels goodness} I can’t give a color description but I did use a heavy misting of Tattered Angels Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist as an over coating!

Thanks for stopping by!!! Hopefully I'll do better this week with posting ;)

Helmar and Art Institue Glitter...oh my!

This week on the Helmar Design Team blog we are working with Art Institute Glitter. Now I'm not much a of a glitter user but I had to give it a try!. I must say I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the help of HELMAR GEMSTONE GLUE applied to random chipboard pieces.

I actually took 3 different glitter colors from Art Institute Glitter and sprinkled 3 piles of the color next to each other. I then covered each chipboard piece with a thin layer of Helmar Gemstone Glue {with my finger because that's how I roll} and tossed it onto the glitter piles. With a tweezer I then lifted it out of the piles and set aside to dry. I love how the chipboard pieces look with the multicolored glitter.

A mini poster from GLITZ was attached to my handmade background paper with Helmar Acid Free Professional Glue. I attached 3 lantern crystal beads from Blue Moon Beads after using a border punch. Once the chipboard was dry I attached them using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. To complete this and turn it into a small wallhanging I dug through all my metal embellishments and found these small clips from Tim Holtz Ideaology and some pink tulle.  I just love the quote and I'm going to hang this in my studio just to remind me to BELIEVE!

Supplies used:
Art Institue Glitter ~ #38 Sea, #23 Periwinkle, #285 South Seas
Helmar Gemstone Glue, 450 Quick Dry Adhesive, Acid Free Professional Glue
Prima Chipboard
Glitz Designs - I Believe die cut
Hand made background paper
Blue Moon Beads

Thanks for stopping by! Time to go run some errands before the weekend. Wishing you a great day & weekend!

Scraps of Darkness "MY GUY" Kit Project #3

Hello...hello! Today I'd like to share with you another project I created for Scraps of Darkness using supplies from the September kit "MY GUY".  It revolves around a picture I've wanted to scrap for a very long time.

The photo is of my Dad and his father working in there Gladiola farm in Bath, NY. My grandfather was a professional photographer {specializing in postcards} but in the 1920's stock market crash his business ground to a halt. So what had once been a hobby for him turned to a source of income, selling flowers at a roadside stand. My dad was in his early teens and I believe this photo was also hand colored by my Grandfather. There are still postcards of his photos floating around the Finger Lakes region of NY.

Kit Ingredients used:
Authentique paper ~ Academic
