I'm busy...BUSY...BUSY!

Week in Review with The {21} Challenge and More!

I had a great week in that I was creating art every day...that makes me HAPPY!

2013 Helmar Design Team Call

Helmar is a recognized leader of adhesives and aerosols in the Arts and Crafts industry and we are looking for new design team members to promote our amazing products. If you’d like to be a part of one of the most creative, fun, and supportive design teams out there, while showcasing Helmar products and your talent, this call is for you!!!

We are looking for dedicated design team members that work well with deadlines, direction and preferred partner products. As a Helmar design team member, you will serve a 12 month term beginning May 1, 2013.

Helmar Design Team members receive…

· A generous amount of Helmar products and advance releases of new Helmar Products when applicable

· Endorsement fees for published layouts and tradeshow projects

· Amazing products from our Preferred Partners throughout your term

What do we expect from Design Team members?:

· Effective and timely communication 

· 3 projects per month which will include a minimum of 2 Helmar blog posts. 

· Keeping your personal blog up to date and linking Helmar at every opportunity.

· Active participation in Helmar social media platforms; ie Facebook, Twitter, Ustream, Pinterest, etc. Social Media is big in the industry and we want you to be a part of it!!!

· Monthly submissions to magazines and publications

· Special projects as per requested for shows, catalogs, promotional items and trade shows

2. Do you consider yourself a ‘niche’ crafter i.e. Do you only create layouts, cards, DIY, mixed media art, home décor, fabric art?

5. List or attached resume of other design teams you are or have previously been on.

6. A brief paragraph letting us know why you would like to be a part of the Helmar Design Team.

7. 3-5 examples of your work that will best showcase what you will bring to the Helmar table. (Layouts, cards, altered art, mixed media, sewing projects, crafts etc.) One of these MUST include a tutorial – video OR photo step-out tutorial. Make sure to list any special techniques you’ve used using adhesives.Please no photos bigger than 500kb each.

Art Journal Page Defines...

I want to share an expanded look at an art journal page created for THE MONTHLY WORD Blog that I collaborate with Catherine Matthews-Scanlon. Using art journaling helps me define what I'm thinking at a particular time. This was created for my choice of Re~Order as my Feb. Monthly Word.

The background of these pages are actually mop pages where I scrape excess acrylic paints off when working on other projects so I'm not wasting my supplies. I keep several journals going and use them to do this so I always have backgrounds in various stages of being complete. Right now my favorite journal to work in is the Dyan Reaveley Creative Journal, the papers she chose are meant for mixed media work and they fit the bill!

I stenciled over my background with a stencil designed by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer exclusively for Cocoa Daisy and also punchinella {sequin waste}. I used FRESCO PAINT from Paper Artsy in Mermaid & Snowflake. Love the matte finish of these paints. The tag was a gift tag created by Vicki Chrisman and it turns out that it is one of my FAVORITE stamps and symbol...the Dragonfly.

On this page I utilized several stamped images to symbolize the areas of my life that needs to be RE~Ordered {here is the original post}. The stamps are from various collections of Tim Holtz and Wendy Vecchi stamp sets. These were stamped using Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black. I painted several areas of the images with Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dapper in Metallic Gold...it has one of the best colors in a metallic gold that I have found. You will see that I scraped thin lines with this paint throughout the pages.

In the following close-up pages you will see various other techniques I used to create interest, texture and depth to these pages...scraped lines, splatters,  and hand painted circles. All images were glued using Helmar Adhesives and Faber Castell Artist Pitt Pens for hand detail work.

I'm really pleased with the final outcome of these pages. The backgrounds were created over a several week period just waiting for the right inspiration to come along and finish.

Altered Spoon Blog Hop with Susan Brown...Happy Blogiversary

Please join me in wishing a big HAPPY 5th BLOGIVERSARY to Susan M. Brown @ "SBARTIST: Painting in the Dark". I was thrilled when Susan asked me to play along and alter wooden spoons...it was a 2-fold mission for me...stretch my creativity and celebrate my retirement as a High School Foods teacher. 

After a lot of creative thought I decided to do something that I could hang and remind me of how much I love the beach...the sun, the sand, the water, the seashells...my happy place. So here are  2 projects that I created by altering wooden spoons.

I created a swag from materials & colors you would find on the beach. The spoons were misted and glammed with Tattered Angels products and embellished with sea glass, shells and beach symbols. A canvas flower embellished with sea glass and burlap rope finishes of the decoration.

Because I only used 3 of the 4 wooden spoons I decided to create a hanger for a beach sign and a seashell wind chime. This wooden spoon was painted and a heavy coat of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in Sandy Beach was applied, along with a small macrame hanger I created.

Presenting the artistes de spoon...

Hopping with Susan K. Weckesser, Unity Stamps & Helmar!

Often we create with products & designs from other artists and never get to meet them. This time I can say that I have met the fabulous Susan K. Weckesser, worked along side her and actually took a class with Susan at Summer CHA.  She is one of the sweetest person’s I’ve met…and it’s real! So I’m definitely excited to share a project with you today created with Susan’s recently released stamp line from the incredible UNITY Stamp Company.

The mini class that was offered at Helmar’s booth at CHA included a mini version of the stamp that I would choose to work with. Here is a photo of the finished class project that I created along with CatherineMatthews-Scanlon {somehow her banner got in my suitcase…wink…wink}.

 Here is my project created specifically for the Helmar~Unity Stamps~Susan K Weckesser blog hop.  It makes my heart sing with the colors, the stamps and final appearance.

I started the project by stamping 2 different house stamps and a tree on Susan’s new paper line from Want 2 Scrap. This became the basis for my background created on an 8”x10” canvas using several layers of paper, paint, rub-ons, background stamps, washi tape and Ranger stickles. 

 The stamped paper was adhered to the completed background using Helmar’s Professional Acid Free Glue. It was an experiment to see if the paper would adhere to a painted background since it’s considered paper-to-paper glue…I was so pleased to see that it worked exactly the same way.
