The Whatevers Creative StoryTelling #2

Here is my Challenge #2 for the quirky & fun challenge created by the incredible talents of Catherine Scanlon, Nathalie Kalbach and Vicki Chrisman. All the detail can be found HERE. It's not to late join in!

Before further ado {and the #3 Challenge is being released this week}!

The story is:

This is my Grandma Martha; I was named after her because I was the 1st grandchild. I love spending my summers with her. I act like I’m an only child even though I’m the oldest of six.

When I found the pictures in the attic I thought she would be mad but instead she said that I could turn them into a scrapbook and she would tell me my family history…whew! I thought I was going to be in BIG TROUBLE.

One of the first pictures that caught my eye was this one of Grandma when she was younger.  I was surprised by the look on her face as she usually was smiling and singing. When I asked her why she told me the story of the horrible storm that hit the beach one summer.

“The day started out like any other day. When you live on the beach the weather dictates what you do. Today was going to be the day my 3 younger sisters were coming for their summer visit.  My father sends them every summer from NYC so they can get some sun and fresh air. Even though I get upset with having them under feet I always look forward to their visit.”

“As I was hanging freshly washed clothes I turned to look to the horizon and was stunned by the dark clouds that were rolling in and the wind that was howling. I got an uneasy knot in my stomach because I knew the ferry was already on its way. It seemed like the clouds and wind came from nowhere.”

“I quickly ran down to the ferry landing station to wait its arrival only to find that it hadn’t arrived yet and there was no word. I sat & I sat, it seemed like forever. The longer I sat the more scared I became. On that ferry was Louise {Weezie}, Mary {Mamie} and Gertrude {Tootsie} along with Trix, the mangy mutt.”

“The rain was pouring down, the wind was gusting and it didn’t look like the end was in sight when all of a sudden I heard the ferry horn blasting away. That meant they were close to shore and would be pulling up to the dock in just moments. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief because this area is known as the Graveyard of the Atlantic with so many ships sinking on the shoals and reefs.”

“I was so relieved that they were safe I even was happy to see Tootsie’s dog Trix, that mangy mutt of hers!”

I hope you enjoyed it. It's time for me to get to work. I'm really excited because today a brand new sewing machine is being delivered to me ;)

Have a creative filled day.
