Tattered Angels Resist Techniques + Kid Friendly
Tattered Angels DT Theme for July is projects that are easy enough for kids utilizing resist techniques. I don’t have any children living nearby but this may be one of the easiest techniques that could be used. This is another technique that I love to use to create my own backgrounds. This time instead of paper I am using a Canvas Corp Mini Journal Book made from canvas. Although I have the start of an idea of what the final project will be and it’s just a start I can at least share 4 of the pages that I have created.
I like to use Claudine Hellmuth’s Studio Multi-Medium Matte, a gel medium, and a stencil to get started…along with a palette knife or old credit card. Spread a thin coat of the gel medium over the stencil, remove the stencil and allow to air dry or get out the heat gun. It leaves a clear resist that then can be misted with your favorite Tattered Angels paint products. Here are several of the pages that I’v created so far:
I went for light, neutral colors with the idea that it might be tea-dyed or aged.
Material Used: The Crafters Workshop Balzer Design’s Stencil ~ Mini Mix & Match Hearts, Claudine Hellmuth Studio Matte Medium Matte, Canvas Corp Canvas Mini Journal, Tattered Angels Chalkboard Glimmer Mist~Sandy Beach, Glimmer Mist ~ Post Card , Gilded Gold
Light neutral colors but with a hint of color for the starburst & star.
Materials Used: The Crafters Workshop ~ Starburst, Claudine Hellmuth Studio Matte Medium Matte, Canvas Corp Canvas Mini Journal, Tattered Angels Chalkboard Glimmer Mist~Sandy Beach, Glimmer Mist ~ Post Card , Gilded Gold, Silk, Sun Sisters, Pumpkin Spice
Light neutral colors but with a hint of color for the cover.
Material Used: The Crafters Workshop Dylusions Stencil ~ Dotted Flowers, Claudine Hellmuth Studio Matte Medium Matte, Canvas Corp Canvas Mini Journal, Tattered AngelsChalkboard Glimmer Mist~Sandy Beach, Glimmer Mist ~ Post Card , Gilded Gold, Silk
I created this flower to use on the cover…it looks better in person but I haven’t attached it yet so I can change my mind when completed. I LOVE how the Canvas Corp Flower came out.
Material Used: The Crafters Workshop Dylusions Stencil ~ Dotted Flowers, Claudine Hellmuth Studio Matte Medium Matte, Canvas Corp Canvas Mini Journal & Flower, Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 Art Parts ~ Button, Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive, Tattered Angels Chalkboard Glimmer Mist~Sandy Beach, Glimmer Mist ~ Post Card , Gilded Gold, Silk, Sun Sisters, Pumpkin Spice, Moss & Verdigris
I hope you give this technique a try. I will be back later this month with more projects and news from the 2012 SUMMER CHA in Chicago, Il. Speaking of which...I better finish packing!!!

Fun with Helmar & Faber-Castell
Here is my 1st Helmar Design Team project to share with you and I'm really excited because it was created using canvas fabric. I wanted you to see how well these products work not only on paper but also fabric. The first thing I did was use HELMAR's Fray Stoppa to reduce the fray on the fabric. LOVE THIS STUFF!
Once dry you can remove any stray strands and be insured that it won't fray anymore. This is how Helmar's Fray-Stoppa looks after it's completely dry...that is a selling point for me that it totally disappears on this fabric. I would suggest that you try this on a sample of any fabric you use to make sure that it is color-fast.
Here is the finished Canvas Corp Canvas Tag using 4 different Faber-Castell products...Gelatos, Pitt Pastel Pencils, Pitt Artisit Pen & Art Grip Aquarelle Pencils.
I used the Gelatos on the small canvas piece that was pre-printed with the frog scene {Basic Grey}.
The Prima Resist Border and handmade leaf was colored with the Art Grip Aquarelles.
The Studio Calico Wood Butterflies were colored with the Pitt Pastel Pencils.
I traced a border with a Pitt Artist Pen in Black {S}.
The border and frog canvas were attached to the Canvas Corp Tag with HELMAR'S Fabric Glue. After completing the canvas tag I felt like it needed a 2nd leaf so I created another...both leaves were attached at the top only, with Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive, so they would float above the frog. The wood butterflies were also attached with Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. I just love this tag and it reminds me of a favorite fairtytale from my chilhood, Thumbelina.
Here is a close-up of the bottom of the tag:
And here is my 2nd project for our FUN with HELMAR and Faber-Castell week. I was in the mood to do something fun & funky after spending all week getting projects ready for CHA. I started with Dylusions Cling Stamps by the most fabulous Dyan Reaveley. After creating my stamped image I then grabbed all differenct colors of the Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen's and got to work. Her funky hair utilized all my favorite colors and I also added them to her incredibly long eyelashes. With adding some Glossy Accents to her lips and eyelashes she was ready to be attached to a Ranger Craft Tag, size #8 in Manilla, that had been painted with various blue and green Faber-Castell GELATOS & misted with water. To create depth I distressed the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Gathered Twigs {I love this shade}. I decided that one tag wasn't enough so I created a second to match and again stamped the leaves using Dylusions Stamps and colored the leaves with 2 shades of green with a PITT Artist Stampers BIG BRUSH.
The pleated ribbon was created by using a natural color canvas ribbon from Canvas Corp and the same shades of GELATOS used on the tags. Not sure how this would work I was pleasantly surprised at how well the ribbon took the color when I added a misting of water and started finger painting...for real! Aren't the colors fabulous on the fabric ribbon...great to now that you can match your ribbon to your background using the same Faber-Castell products. Some 7Gypsie Washi tape and the project is complete.
Where does HELMAR come in...all paper was adhered together with Professional Acid Free Glue...my metal beetles attached with Liquid Scrap Dots...the ribbon trim attached with 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. Isn't she just so fun & funky?

Lemony Snicket visited my house or why I'm MIA!
Have you ever had a series of unfortunate events? Well this last week Lemony Snicket came for an uninvited visit...I don't even know where to start but I do know that I had all the best of intentions to complete a blog series on Stencil Love...unfortunately it isn't going to happen for a few weeks ;(
The week started with my poor daughter and her significant other getting stuck for 3 days in the Shenandoah Valley with a series of unexpected & costly car repairs. They were very fortunate to run into the kindest couple, Iris & Johnny, owners of The Feathered Nest B&B located in Woodstock, Va..This delayed their visit here but finally on Tues. 7/3 they did arrive. Although they were so discouraged after planning and saving for their yearly vacation they were upbeat and positive.
This wasn't just an ordinary visit as right before they left I had to tell Cait that her beloved 10 yr. old Rottweiler...DUTCH, had cancer and the prognosis is not good. The visit became one of tears and goodbyes. Dutch came to live with us in NC a year ago after spending 9 years with her. I'm thankful that she had the opportunity to give him lots of love & kisses!
We were looking forward to spending a few days together yet on July 4th she was complaining of not feeling well. Come to find out after a trip to urgent care the next day that she had a severe case of Strep Throat. After much discussion they both decided to cut sort there planned vacation and instead of heading to SC to visit her father they would just go back home to Buffalo, NY. We all were afraid the more unfortunate events would occur.
She left yesterday and arrived home last night at 8:23 pm...safely...phew! I feel so bad for these 2 young people, as the anticipation and planning for a 10 day vacation was running high yet it just wasn't meant to be! We are all thankful that these events, although unexpected, could be fixed and they are safe.
Here is a quick picture of my sick girl with her dog!
Well I hope that explains where & what I've been up to...here's to another busy schedule this week:
7/10 Husbands {arthroscopic?} knee surgery
Tattered Angels Blog Post
Helmar Blog Post
7/11-7/12 Projects to get ready for CHA!
7/13 Helmar Blog Post
Post-op Dr. visit
7/16 Fly out to Chicago for CHA
Heres a quick sneak peek for ya!
