Knock on WOOD...

I'm so excited to be able to share my Nov. projects designed for Tattered Angels. This month was all about wood and Tattered Angels products...what could you do with the two...re-cycled, re-used, re-purposed. I am not a wood person so the first thing I had to do was come up with something wood...that was the easy part...then I started experimenting on scrap pieces...the effect was AMAZING...I WAS SOLD! Wood & Tattered Angels is a match made in heaven.

PROJECT #1 CANDLESTICKS ~  Unfinished wood candlesticks, toy wheels, wood balls, wood spindle toppers and the oh so glorious FALL 2010 Glimmer Mist Colors...this is what you get.

PROJECT #2 SHADOW BOX ~ Before I knew about this project I had ordered this beautiful Angel Wings Shadow Box made by Twiddleybitz, an Australian Company, to celebrate my being chosen to be on the Tattered Angels Design Team. It arrived just in the nick of time and I had so much fun putting it together and creating it. This incorporated unfinished wood with Glimmer Mist, Glimmer Glaze, Glimmer Glam, Regal Font, Vintaj, Prima and Parisian Anthology paper from Pink Paislee.

PROJECT #3 PICTURE FRAME ~  Unfinished wood picture frame, Tattered Angels Clear Stamps, Staz-on Black, Glimmer Glazes, Glimmer Mist and a favorite PaPaYa card. This started out to be a frame for a mirror. I couldn't find a mirror that size and was being really lazy so I hit up my stash of cards...this happens to be one of my favs. I almost fell over when I realized that the colors were perfect together...providence! The two were made for each other.

I hope you enjoyed these projects. I can say that working with the different paint products that Tattered Angels offers and wood has opened up a whole new avenue of creating...try it!

I would like to extend Happy Thanksgiving greetings to everyone. Hopefully the Tattered Angels new website will be up soon...stop back and see what we are creating for Dec....you won't want to miss it! My day for posting will be the 22nd of every month.

PROJECT PREVIEW

I'm up to my neck in things I MUST do...not HAVE to do. I'm getting ready to unveil my Nov. projects for Tattered Angels, working on a TOP SECRET project, putting up my Christmas tree, mailing out 8 Ebay packages, laundry and packing for my trip home for Kelly & Brett's wedding. I'm not sure how traveling during Thanksgiving weekend is going to be...luckily I'm not going to Fri. I can do this...LOL!

ERIKA TAYLOR TATTERED ANGELS NOV. PROJECT

The Nov. project for the Tattered Angels Design Team was to create projects using wood & the various paint products. Usually you can view these projects every month at the Tattered Angels blog but it is in the middle of being updated. The Design Team members are displaying their projects on there own blogs and posting to Facebook also. Today was Erika Taylor's projects and I am pleased that I can share them with you. I will try and go back and post the other team members projects because let me tell you...THEY ARE INCREDIBLE...yes, I am slightly excited and yelling because you will want to try the technique on any piece of wood you can find. My husband has locked up all my Tattered Angels product because he sees me eyeing all the beautiful old wood trim in our 1920 American Foursquare...not really...only kidding! Here is Erika's blog for you to check out: http://taylordconcepts.blogspot.com/ and here is one of her projects...ENJOY!!!

WHAT HAVE I BEEN UP TO????
Right now the hottest handmade item seems to anything made from felt...particularly felt flowers. I have the tendency to try & figure out how to make them so I don't have to purchase them...something that I have always done. After google search after google search, finding pattern after pattern, tons of research I set out to make these beautiful felt corsages to go on winter coats for this season.  I stopped by Michaels and bought several pieces of white felt...knowing that they would all be "glimmerized" with TATTERED ANGELS Glimmer Mist.

Here is my 1st experiment...{now remember I taught clothing & textiles for 30 years} it took from start to finish a little over an hour to trace, cut, sew & "GLIMMERIZE" this gardenia. I used Tattered Angels CHALKBOARD Glimmer Mist in Cotton Candy.  I'm pretty happy with the results...not bad for 1st try if I say so my self. Not happy with the pencil lines but that's what I had on hand...{note to self...ORDER fabric glue & water based fabric markers}.

BUT I can never stop there...now I'm on a search for a better grade of felt and I stumbled across Giant Dwarf by Sue. A great ETSY shop that you must stop and see. Sue's story is also quite interesting how she went from a hobbyist to a full fledged entrepreneur. Of course I didn't just look I ordered several pieces of WOOL felt...because WOOL fiber will take the GLIMMER MIST so much better that a man-made fiber.

Of course I then had to search out her blog...

So what do you think...a few small green leaves.some bling & maybe a little tulle & feathers...OH YEAH!!! Are you on my Christmas list?

Here is my very 1st tattered Angels project.
I am still amazed at the effect Glimmer Mist gives you...
I had no clue that less than a year later I would be
on the TA Design Team.

OVERSEAS...not me but...

Please go and check out this online store: http://scrapmatrix.com. Here's a picture of Rae's Shoes...I would really love these in my closet!!!

I love this store...Rae carries some really unusual product that isn't normally seen here in the States. I placed a small order and the shipping was only $12.00...not bad for international shipping. Rae carries Julie van Oosten's COLLECTION ELEMENTS line...simply TDF! http://www.collectionselements.com/store/

Here is a link to Nic Howard's blog to see some of Julie's products: http://nichoward.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/05/more-from-sia.html

Also carries Dusty Attic and Twiddleybitz products...and so much more. You must stop by to check it out. LOVELY!!!

Buffalo: This Place Matters

Sometimes I get so homesick for Buffalo, NY...this video displays some of the grandeur of the Queen City. After spending most of my adult life there I didn't realize how much I would miss it when I moved to NC. Mind you ...NOT THE WEATHER...but just about everything else. Looking forward to flying home at the end of Nov. for a family wedding.

A GOOD READ...

I love to read but haven't had the time over the past few years. I made a promise to myself last summer that I would start reading again...and I did. I started with THE HELP by Kathyrn Stockett {A+++}and could not put it down. Then I moved onto THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO by Stieg Larsson, the 1st in a trilogy that hooked me right in to the story. Of course I then had to follow up with THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, the second of the thriller trilogy and naturally knew that the 3rd book of the series was on my list. WOW...in a short time I managed to complete 3 books and was itching to read more!!

Then my good friend Kathy arrived in town to travel to Charlotte, NC with me and attend the CKC Convention. In her hot little hand was a Kindle...my eyes grew large with the idea of some new piece of technology. I was intrigued...well actually I was sold on it! I rationalized that it would be a good investment, especially because the high school that I teach in was instituting P-Tank Time, a 15 min. block where everyone in the school would read.

I placed an advanced order for the new Kindle with wi-fi and 3G network capabilities hoping it would arrive in time for the start of school. It did and I'm thrilled. I finished the 3rd book in the Stieg Larsson trilogy THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNETS NEST. But now what was I going to read...I downloaded several free chapters of books that I thought I might like, a real advantage to owning a KIndle.

Nothing appealed to me until yesterday and I found this...THE IMMORTAL LIFE OF HENRIETTA LACKS by Rebecca Skloot. I was hooked after the second sentence and find it beyond comprehension...it is a MUST READ. It is part non-fiction, part thriller and part history...I'm not going to say anymore but I recommend you jump on over to your favorite online bookstore and check it out for your self or click on this link.

I {HEART} BLOGS....

Sometimes I go to my favorite blogs, see something of interest and start clicking away. The next thing I know 2 hrs. has passed and I'm still clicking...where as the time gone? The time that I complain I don't have enough of???? I started doing this tonight and I caught myself before I invested 2 hrs. of my very limited "CREATE" time, with that in mind I want to share 2 really cool blogs I found after I went to one of my all-time favorite blogs and artists...PaPaYa with Anahata. Here are the links...don't blame me if you get waylaid...

STILL EXCITED...TA DT

I still have to pinch myself that I am part of an incredible group of artists. When I was thinking about what 5 projects I would complete for submission I thought at least one should be a layout. This is not always my 1st choice....I tend to like PROJECTS...to alter something...a mini book...a collage...a canvas. Once I saw the pictures that my sister Michele took on her INCREDIBLE JOURNEY to Costa Rica I knew that a LO was in order, that the exotic colors of the Rainforest would work beautifully with so many of the Glimmer Mist colors . Here is a full view of the LO...enjoy!
